During my time at an advertising startup in Philly a number of years ago, I spent countless hours on a new business pitch for a lifestyle company aiming to connect with sneakerheads. (A sneakerhead is a person who collects exclusive, vintage, rare, and limited edition shoes)Sneakerheads are a passionate group whose seal of approval can elevate a brand to "must have" status. They collect shoes for fashion and status. It's in the exclusivity and the uniqueness of a given pair that they draw their inspiration.
When I came across this one-of-a-kind interactive installation, I immediately connected with the designer's passion. For him a sneaker is a work of art.Sneaker Mirror from Jesse Chorng on Vimeo.
This interactive mirror belongs in the flagship store of a major sneaker retailer. It also could be modified to feature the designs of a single sneaker company and be used for advertising and promotion. Maybe we'll see this at the NBA All Star game next year. Another idea would be for a footwear company to put this in the lobby of its headquarters. It clearly evokes the statement that your shoes say a lot about you.
